Domaine des Clos Chorey-les-Beaune Rouge 'Poirier Malchausse' 2019
$62.00 USD
This bizarrely named lieu-dit—“Poirier Malchaussé” translates to “Badly-Shod Pear Tree” (perhaps a crooked pear tree once grew here, but nobody today really knows)—sits in the southern reaches of Chorey-lès Beaune, just north of the town of Beaune itself and abutting Savigny-lès-Beaune along its western flank. Less breezily fruit-driven than a typical Chorey, Grégoire’s Poirier Maulchassé displays a subtle meatiness more akin to a top Savigny, with dense, succulent fruit wed to relatively gentle tannins.
