The 2009 Pelan is open-knit, fresh, and relaxed in its structure, giving up balanced plum fruits and offering gorgeous secondary notes of leather, tobacco, and sage, and integrated, supple tannins; it is a large wine without heaviness. 2009 is an often overshadowed vintage by 2010 – but these wines were excellent and fruit driven on release, and have gotten rather better without losing balance over time.
