Pelan was recently purchased by the Amoreau family, who has run the Le Puy estate since 1610. Just like Le Puy's vineyards, they are managed with organic and biodynamic practices.  Closerie de Pelan encompasses 42 total hectares, most of which—besides a small parcel of Sauvignon Blanc—are planted to roughly 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, at altitudes of 50 to 80 meters. When they purchased the estate, they also inherited decades worth of pristine bottles aging in the cellar. While 2022 will be the first vintage made by the Amoreau family, they have been sending us the library from the cellar! The 2010 Closerie du Pelan opens with an earthy, autumnal perfume—dried currant, tobacco leaf, crushed stone, and forest floor. On the palate, it’s firm yet harmonious, with dark-toned fruit, a mineral spine, and well-resolved tannins that carry through a long, savory finish. Mature and contemplative, this wine captures the grace of time and a place unbothered by fashion.
