A pure Xarel-lo from a massal selection of Recaredo’s fabled Turo d’En Mota vineyard planted in 1999. The 1.5-hectare Rascara vineyard is situated in a prime sector of Alt Penedès, between the municipalities of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Torrelavit, and its limestone-rich, stone-littered soils produce Xarel-lo of intense salinity and strict acidity even in the warmest of vintages. Fermented spontaneously, with secondary fermentation initiated with still-fermenting must from the same harvest, the 2018 spent a staggering 64 months on its lees aging under natural cork before a manual disgorgement (without dosage, of course) in February of 2024. Longtime Recaredo enthusiasts will recognize in the 2018 “Vinya del Rascara” a familiar elegant autolytic depth, but the fruit here is crunchier, more immediate, and more “analog”—rarely does sparkling wine feel so viscerally connected to its materials of origin while still maintaining such a layered, murmuring complexity. With only 4480 bottles of the 2018 produced, this is Corpinnat on a truly intimate scale from one of the sparkling wine world's greatest minds, and it establishes a new benchmark for what this exciting winegrowing region is capable of.
