I bring your attention to a trio of wines that are staples in my household … wines that, although modest in appellation, reveal the glories of terroir, our driving passion from the outset.  May I recommend for your consideration;

Cotes du Rhone Rouge “La Vigneronne” 2024 - Domaine Gour de Chaulé: a Grenache tour de force from a parcel situated within the Vacqueyras appellation produced by the Bonfils-Fumoso family with whom we have been trading since the mid-1980s.  This is a wine that I skim from our small annual allocation for workhouse use at our home, an “under the radar” wine that offers a package of spicy fruit layered on a surprising complexity for a wine at this relatively modest price.

Bouzeron Aligoté 2023 - Nathalie Richez: in an era marked by ever-more-expensive white Burgundy, one thirsts for value in wines from the Côte d’Or.  This unique appellation is solely for Aligoté—specifically, a local strain known as Aligoté Doré which tends to be spicier, rounder, and more complex than the more commonly planted Aligoté Vert. We think you will be delighted by the palate presence of this wine which offers an opportunity to immerse oneself in the pleasures of white Burgundy at a reasonable price.

Bourgogne Passe-tout-grain 2023 - Domaine Georges Lignier: A fitting companion to the Aligoté, this Pinot Noir/Gamay blend from one of the most significant domaines in the Côte d’Or  (owners of 50% of Clos Saint Denis!) offers an entry into the world of red Burgundy.  Simple, yes, but filled with joyous fruit and the spirit of the most valuable vineyard land in the world.
